ABOUT THE PLANT
Tangerine and Mandarin are two varieties of orange belonging to the same species, Citrus reticulata. The mandarin is thought to have evolved from the Tangerine. The tree originated in China, and was brought to Europe in 1805, then to North America where much of the world's tangerine essential oil is currently produced.
Citrus reticulata Blanco, Citrus nobilis Andrews, Citrus tangerine
ABOUT THE OIL
Tangeringe essential oil is an orange colored, cold pressed oil from the peel of the fruit. It uplifts and refreshes the senses with its bright citrus aroma. While similar to Mandarin essential oil, Tangerine has a softer body and milder aroma. And compared with the large-scale production of Mandarin essential oil Tangerine essential oil is more rare.
See mandarin.
OF INTEREST
Apart from its use in aromatherapy, Tangerine oil is used extensively in flavors for soft drinks, candy, ice cream and liqueurs.

-
Extensively used in the world of colognes, the aroma of Tangerine essential oil is more reminiscent of Bitter Orange or Valencia Orange than its more closely related Mandarin essential oil. Completely lacking the characteristic dryness and “perfumery” nots of mandarin oil, it cannot be used as a replacement for mandarin oil in perfumes.
