ABOUT THE PLANT
Also known as Bois de rose, Pau-rosa, and Brazilian Rosewood, Aniba rosaeodora is a moderately tall tropical evergreen tree, with reddish tinted bark and bearing yellow flowers. A native species to the Amazon basin of South America, it is now predominantly cultivated in Brazilian and Peruvian forests.
ABOUT THE OIL
A colorless to pale yellow liquid, Rosewood oil is most commonly distilled from the wood chips of virgin trees growing wild in tropical rainforests. First distilled in 1875 in French Guiana, it became so popular that the trees were all cut. We are now facing a similar extinction if the wood and essential oil trade are not sufficiently regulated. So, if you are purchasing Rosewood essential oil make sure that it is sustainably harvested!
OF INTEREST
The major constituent of Rosewood essential oil is linalool (80-90%), which gives its aroma an especially pleasing and uplifting quality.
